What is Apitherapy?
«Api » comes from « apis mellifera » the latin word for bee, and « therapy » comes from the grec word « therapéuô », which means to serve, to take care of, to treat.
Apitherapy is a integrative, alternative and complementary approach. It is an art and a science that uses all the bee products to treat both humans and animals and to maintain their health.
Dr Stefan Stangaciu, co-founder of the Canadian Apitherapy Association
Apitherapy has been around for centuries. During the classical antiquity, the Grecs and Egyptians used honey and propolis (they called the black wax) for their medicinal properties. These products have long been part of the Eastern and Middle-Eastern traditional medicines.
Today, apitherapy is practiced by doctors and therapists from around the world. Many associations are created to connect all the specialists together, and university researchers publish studies on the different bee hive products every year.
